Choosing Freestanding Fridges

A freestanding fridge has a finished exterior and can stand in an open appliance space, making it easier to position or replace than an integrated model. Choose the format around your kitchen and shopping habits. An undercounter fridge keeps essentials close in a smaller space, while a tall larder fridge provides more shelves and fresh-food capacity. Some models include a small freezer box for ice or a limited amount of frozen food.

Measure height, width and depth, then allow the ventilation gaps stated by the manufacturer and enough room for the door to open fully. Compare usable capacity, shelf adjustment, salad drawers, bottle storage, noise and the energy label. Check whether the door is reversible if hinges on one side would obstruct a wall, unit or walkway.

What is the difference between a larder fridge and a fridge with a freezer box?

A larder fridge uses its chilled space for fresh food. A freezer-box model adds a small frozen compartment, reducing some fridge capacity in return for limited frozen storage.

Can a freestanding fridge go under a worktop?
