Bosch induction hob with food cooking

Buying advice

Choosing Induction hobs

An induction hob heats compatible magnetic pans directly, giving quick response while the smooth glass surface stays easy to wipe. Before choosing, test your existing cookware with a magnet and check the size and spacing of the cooking zones. Flexible zones can help with larger pans, but only if their layout matches how you cook.

Measure the worktop cut-out and confirm the required clearances below the hob, particularly above drawers or an oven. Induction hobs can draw significant power, and some models need a dedicated circuit or configurable power setting. Check the electrical rating and installation instructions before ordering, then use a suitably qualified installer for the connection and any worktop changes.

Compatible cookware

A magnet should stick firmly to the pan base; also check that pan diameters match the zones.

Zones and layout

Flexible areas and well-spaced zones help when using griddles, casseroles or several pans.

Cut-out and clearance

Check the aperture, worktop thickness, ventilation and space needed below the hob.

Key questions

How do I know if my pans work on induction?

Place a magnet against the base. If it sticks firmly, the pan is likely compatible, but also check that its base size suits the hob's zones.

Does an induction hob need hardwiring?

Many do, although connection and power-management options vary. Check the electrical rating and use the circuit specified by the manufacturer.

Can induction replace a gas hob?

Yes if the worktop opening and electrical supply are suitable. A Gas Safe registered engineer must safely disconnect the old gas appliance.

Will an induction hob scratch?

The glass can mark if cookware is dragged or debris is trapped underneath. Keep pan bases clean and lift cookware when moving it.

What is a flexible induction zone?

It allows adjoining areas to work together for larger cookware. Designs differ, so check the supported pan positions and sizes.
